How to make a Poison Apple Cocktail
Step 1:
To make the black sugar, stir together the sugar and black food coloring in a small, wide bowl until the food coloring coats the sugar. Add more sugar or food coloring as needed.
Step 2:
Rub a slice of lime on the rim of 2 martini glasses, then roll the edges in the black sugar until coated. Set aside.
Step 3:
Peel and slice or chop the kiwis.
Step 4:
Blend kiwi in a blender or mash kiwi by hand to make a smooth puree. Make sure to not blend too much so the seeds don’t get pulverized.
Step 5:
Pour the kiwi puree into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Step 6:
Pour the remaining ingredients into the cocktail shaker, then shake until mixed.
Step 7:
Immediately pour the drink into the prepared martini glasses.

Can I make a Poison Apple Cocktail without alcohol?
Yes! To make a Poison Apple Mocktail, you can replace the green apple schnapps and vodka with 4 ounces (½ cup) of sour green apple soda, such as Jones Green Apple Soda. If you are serving both cocktails and mocktails, you could give each one a different garnish, such as apples for the cocktails, and kiwi slices for the alcohol-free drinks so no one confuses the two, especially if you’re serving the mocktails to children, or people who do not consume alcohol.
Can I use any color of food coloring?
Sure, you can use your favorite color food coloring for the sugar rim. Try a green sugar rim to go along with the green theme, or try a vibrant blood red.
Does the recipe double well?
Yes, you can make a larger batch of the cocktail mixture by doubling (or tripling, or quadrupling!) the ingredients. However, most cocktail shakers only hold enough liquid and ice for 1-2 drinks so you will have to portion out the servings and make 1-2 drinks at a time.
Can this cocktail be made in advance?
Yes, you can make the mixture up to 1 day in advance and refrigerate it until you’re ready to make the cocktails. Stir or shake well before preparing the drinks since the kiwi seeds may settle at the bottom. Be sure not to add ice until you’re ready to serve because it will melt and dilute the drink.
Can I use a different fruit to make this cocktail?
If you don’t like kiwi or would like to experiment with other flavors, you could replace the kiwi with another fruit with a similar texture and color such as honeydew melon. If you don’t mind changing the green color of the drink, fresh pineapple, or mango would also be delicious. To replace the kiwi with another fruit, replace the 2 kiwis with 1 cup chopped fruit such as honeydew, pineapple, or mango.
Health benefits of kiwis
Kiwis are full of fiber and Vitamin C, and the seeds contain healthy fatty acids. The fuzzy skin is also edible and contains vitamins and fiber, if you dare to try it! Be sure to wash the skin thoroughly before eating it.
Each serving of this cocktail contains 1 whole kiwi so you’ll get a boost of nutrients and a serving of fruit while enjoying your Halloween cocktail.
