Ultimate Green Smoothie for Weight Loss
The main fat burning nutrients in food
Have you ever wondered why some food is considered to be “fat burning” or “good for weight loss”?
Here’s why:
There are certain “nutrients” in some food that naturally boost metabolism and engage fat burning activities in the body.
If you are looking to lose weight and want to make meals that help you with that, you can pack them full of these yummy ingredients for maximum effect.
There are 3 of these wonderful nutrients:
1. Arginine: has fat burning properties. Can be found the biggest amount in: pumpkin seeds, squash seeds, watermelon seeds, sesame seeds, peanuts, soy beans, peanut butter, tahini, almonds, pine nuts, fava beans, sunflower seeds.
2. Flavonoid: boosts metabolism. Can be found the biggest amount in: citrus, berries, red onions, beans, green tea, grapes, cocoa.
3. Capsaicin: has fat burning properties. Can be found in spicy food, like hot pepper, black and white pepper, ginger.
(Now, you don’t necessary have to put a jalapeno pepper into your smoothie…only if you’re hardcore 🙂 )
What makes a good green smoothie?
1. Liquid base
The liquid base of your smoothie can be various things. For the purposes of weight loss, it is recommended to be either organic soy milk or green tea. As I wrote before, both soy and green tea have big amounts of flavonoids in them (nutrients with metabolism boosting properties).
If you choose soy milk, the consistency of your smoothie will be creamier. On the other hand, choosing green tea will result in a more “liquid-y” drink.
2. Dark Green Leafy Vegetables
This point is obvious, since we are trying to make a green smoothie. But not all veggies will do.
You see, even among veggies there are some, healthier than others.
Dark green leafy vegetables are the most nutrition dense food on Earth.
The good thing is that even if you generally don’t like dark green leafy vegetables, you can always choose one that’s completely undetectable in smoothies. For example: spinach, kale…etc.
Top 5 dark leafy veggies for weight loss:
- watercress
- chinese cabbage
- chard
- beet greens
- spinach
3. Berries
As there are kings among veggies, there are queens among fruits.
So, what are the best fruits?
Berries, berries, berries.
Not only are they the healthiest (they contain a super high amount of antioxidants), they also have high concentration of flavonoids that are nutrients in plants with metabolism boosting properties.
Top 3 berries for weight loss:
- blackberries
- raspberries
- blueberries
4. Citrus Fruit
Citrus fruits are famous for having a really high amount of Vitamin C, that is essential for humans. The other reason you should consume them daily is because they boost your metabolism. So, all that fat you hate gets burnt sooner. How awesome!
Top 3 citrus fruits for weight loss:
- orange
- lemon
- tangerine
5. Natural Sweetener
Try to not use maple or agave syrup in your weight loss smoothies. Although they are much better than traditional table sugar, they don’t contain any nutrition and can raise your blood sugar levels just as much.
Instead go for natural, plant-based sweeteners. We promise, they are just as tasty!
Top natural sweeteners for weight loss:
- Medjool dates
- ripe bananas (brown, spotty)
- ripe pears
6. Turmeric/ Cinnamon
Spices and herbs in general have great anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric and cinnamon are exceedingly efficient though.
Sprinkle 1/3-1/2 teaspoon of these into your food , drinks and you will begin to feel a difference shortly.
As a side effect, your skin should get clearer too.
+1: Nuts and Seeds
The healthy fats in the nuts/seeds combined with their arginine content results in a fantastic addition to your drink.
Put the seeds directly into the blender and eat the nuts between sips or after you finished drinking the smoothie.
