It’s not even Winter, yet, it’s freeeeezing! You can put on 7 layers of clothing or just make this gingerbread hot cocoa. It’s a healthy version of hot chocolate with a more festive flavor. Ready in 5-7 minutes, perfect for Christmas (kids and adults alike).
When it comes to cozy Winter drinks, I prefer this hot cocoa recipe to hot chocolate, because it’s much easier to make and has healthy ingredients! No store-bought chocolate full of sugar.
Ingredients you will need:
- plant milk (unsweetened, any type you prefer, I use oat milk) – if you choose a vanilla flavored milk, adjust the syrup for sweetness!
- cocoa powder (or carob powder) – I use one that has 10-12% cocoa butter content
- maple syrup (or date syrup, agave syrup…etc.)
- gingerbread spice
- optional: vanilla extract, extra cinnamon, vegan whipped cream, marshmallows, etc.
You can make hot cocoa two ways. The important part is that you have to heat the milk, so that the cocoa powder and sweetener can dissolve in it properly.
Method 1 – Boiling
Step 1
Bring the plant milk to a boil in a small pot.
Step 2
Add the cocoa powder, maple syrup and gingerbread spice. Mix until everything is dissolved.
Enjoy with whipped creme and/or marshmallows.
Method 2 – Microwave
Step 1
Microwave the plant milk for 3-4 minutes (depends on your microwave’s power).
Step 2
Add the cocoa powder, maple syrup and gingerbread spice. Mix until everything is dissolved.
Enjoy with whipped creme and/or marshmallows.
That’s it! That was super easy, right? ;-P Now you can hide under a blanket with your cozy drink and enjoy the chilly Winter evenings.
